Psalm 30
A Psalm of David. A song at the dedication of the temple.
I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up
and have not let my foes rejoice over me.
2 O Lord my God, I cried to you for help,
and you have healed me.
3 O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol;
you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.
4 Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints,
and give thanks to his holy name.
5 For his anger is but for a moment,
and his favor is for a lifetime.
Weeping may tarry for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.
6 As for me, I said in my prosperity,
“I shall never be moved.”
7 By your favor, O Lord,
you made my mountain stand strong;
you hid your face;
I was dismayed.
8 To you, O Lord, I cry,
and to the Lord I plead for mercy:
9 “What profit is there in my death,
if I go down to the pit?
Will the dust praise you?
Will it tell of your faithfulness?
10 Hear, O Lord, and be merciful to me!
O Lord, be my helper!”
11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
you have loosed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness
12 That my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!
When Psalm 30 is mentioned, I always think of "Gladness." The Happiness Psalm.
Is there spring without winter? Is there a child without pregnancy and labor? Is there sunrise without night? Yes, in Heaven!
The Prodigal Son is a story of maturing into faith. The Ten Talents is about trust. The Pray until the 12th hour is about evil circumstance of injustice. Pray impudently with Faith.
Matthew 8, Jesus calms the Storm. The Storm is said to be furious and great. 5 And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.”
Storms are not quiet when death is about to happen. The Disciples 'Probably' were not meek and mild to ask Jesus to help and to wake to see they were about to die.
Let's decide who else could be placed in this Psalm.
Abraham. Jacob. Joseph. Job, Moses, Joshua, Ruth, Naomi, Gideon, Samuel, David, Rehoboam and Abijah, Jehoshaphat, Hezekiah, Isaiah, Zechariah, Joseph, Mary. John. Zacchaeus, the blind men calling for Jesus, the woman with the idea to hold the fringe of Jesus' robe. Jairus, father of the daughter. The Centurion to heal his servant. The woman from Syro-Phoenician. All the Disciples, minus John, on Good Friday.
Apparently, most of us have been in this Boat.
Including the Fishermen Disciples, getting out to fish.
Suddenly, Jesus had fixed Breakfast.
Psalm 34:8
Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Jesus has done some incredible things from fish. Not only was Jesus alive from conquering death, Jesus had created an incredible catch - tearing the nets and making a new Church from fishermen. Jesus had paid debt for Himself and Peter. We can be sure this was the best breakfast of their Lives.
You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
you have loosed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness
That my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!
Abba,
For every season and time there is a Purpose.
We've reached the beginning of Lent!
Luke 15
"When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. "And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!' "I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance."
You give us Your Peace.
Psalm 12
I will now arise,” says the Lord;
“I will place him in the safety for which he longs.”
6 The words of the Lord are pure words,
like silver refined in a furnace on the ground,
purified seven times.
7 You, O Lord, will keep them;
you will guard us from this generation forever.
Abba, Please give us Your Peace. So many times Jesus healed, like the man who was blind and cried out for Jesus, those around Him told the blind man to hush. When Zacchaeus climbed the tree, he did so to rise from doubt. When Jesus healed Jairus' daughter, He said:
Mark 5:36
Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
Asking Jesus to Bless all of His Good Creation this Lent and Easter.
We pray for the earth as God's Good Creation, where He sees Good.
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!
Let us live to find You first, and live in Love, Joy and Peace.
For thine is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory. Amen in Jesus Christ.
