Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.
2 For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit.
3 On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation.
4 The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. 5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up.
6 Now, brothers, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching? 7 If even lifeless instruments, such as the flute or the harp, do not give distinct notes, how will anyone know what is played? 8 And if the bugle gives an indistinct sound, who will get ready for battle? 9 So with yourselves, if with your tongue you utter speech that is not intelligible, how will anyone know what is said? For you will be speaking into the air.
10 There are doubtless many different languages in the world, and none is without meaning, 11 but if I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker a foreigner to me.
12 So with yourselves, since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church.
13 Therefore, one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. 15 What am I to do?
I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also.
16 Otherwise, if you give thanks with your spirit, how can anyone in the position of an outsider say “Amen” to your thanksgiving when he does not know what you are saying? 17 For you may be giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not being built up.
18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.
19 Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
Let us pair this together with Acts 2.
Acts 2
When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place.
2 And suddenly
there came from Heaven a sound
a mighty rushing wind,
and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.
3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under Heaven.
6 And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered,
because each one was hearing them speak in his own language.
7 And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, 11 both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the Mighty Works of God.”
12 And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”
13 But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”
14 But Peter, standing with the eleven,
lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. 15 For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. 16 But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:
17 “‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares,
that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh,
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams;
18 even on my male servants and female servants
in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show Wonders in the Heavens above
and
signs on the earth below,
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;
20 the sun shall be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood,
before the day of the Lord comes,
the great and magnificent day.
21 And it shall come to pass
that
everyone who calls upon the Name of the Lord
shall be saved.’
22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Nan attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves know— 23 this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24 God raised Him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for Him to be held by it.
25 For David says concerning Him,
“‘I saw the Lord always before me,
for he is at my right hand
that I may not be shaken;
26 therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced;
my flesh also will dwell in hope.
27 For you will not abandon my soul to Hades,
or let your Holy One see corruption.
28 You have made known to me the paths of life;
you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’
29 “Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, 31 he foresaw and spoke about the Resurrection of the Christ, that He was not abandoned to Hades, nor did His Flesh see corruption.
32 This Jesus God raised up,
and of that we all are witnesses.
33 Being therefore Exalted at the Right Hand of God, and having received from the Father the Promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.
34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says,
“‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand,
35 until I make your enemies your footstool.”’
36 "Let all the house of Israel therefore
know for certain
that God
has made Him both Lord and Christ,
this
Jesus whom you crucified.”
37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the Name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the Promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to Himself.”
40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.”
41 So those who received His Word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the Apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.
46 And day by day,
attending the temple together
and breaking bread in their homes,
they received their food
with glad and generous hearts,
Praising God and having favor with all the people.
And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being Saved.
My education in Parish Day Schools and having a Step-Grandfather as a Priest, did not always prepare me. In fact, at one Youth Group Bible Study I seriously replied my father who loved to entertain, every weekend, and substitutes tongue for tenderloin and people never knew. That's correct, he fixed this in the pressure cooker and it was superb. My mother had my father dress the tongue because she thought that was anatomically intense. Because the difference was around a hundred dollars.
At that point, our good natured Youth Group Priest, gently said, that's really interesting, but we meant Tongues of the Holy Spirit. And to delay the next portion, he asked what Tate, my step-grandfather Episcopalian Priest, would say about this. At this I had to reply, after a pause, "Not that much." This gave way to falling over as we were sitting on the floor.
Xenoglossia
The gift of these tongues is called Xenoglossia, the Church records Xenoglossia helping convert people through all the centuries. Hearing God's mighty works in one's own language, when the person speaking has never been instructed in the language, is a work of the Spirit. It is a sign and a work of God. It is one of many.
Glossolalia is speaking, apparently, in another language. Which could indicate you are speaking in your own prayer language to the Holy Spirit.
An entire Church in Scotland suddenly could speak in different languages in the late 1800s.
1 Corinthians 13:8
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
There is So Much Information. There are so many Opinions. This is like the Two Million showing up after the First Easter to figure out what is where and how and when, Jesus is alive.

Wind. The Holy Spirit wasn't placid and delightful.
Holy Spirit arrives to move and comfort.
To instruct.
To Prevail!!!!!!!
John 3:8
The wind blows wherever it pleases.
You hear its sound, but you cannot tell
where it comes from or where it is going.
So it is with everyone
born of the Spirit.
Because of the multiplication of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.
13 But the one who perseveres to the end
will be saved.
14 And
This Gospel of the Kingdom
Will be Preached
in ALL the world
as a testimony to all nations,
and
then
the end will come.

the part of theology concerned with death, judgment, and the final destiny of the soul and of humankind
Makes Matthew 24: 12-14 one of my top favorite verses. Hurray! This crazy illogic and mean spiritedness of cold, cold is Not The End of The World. And so Virginia, Christmas will arrive again, when God tells this messy world, He would give us His Perfect and Beloved Only Son, to raise up to His Glory and be saved again. Trusted, as the Beloved of God. Himself!
We do not have the Word of God preached in belief around the entire world. Some people have never heard the Bible. We have not had the amazing Awakening of His Holy Spirit. Yes, the Renaissance was fantastic, however 1/3 of mankind was dying of starvation and 40% of women were trafficked
(Renaissance - the Hospital of Sienna Italy helping the pilgrimage journey for people seeking a cure, to be helped, to be cleansed. The Renaissance art explains the real plight of such a time. Many of the paintings show the Accona desert before it was cultivated by hope and work, pure endurance.)
Trafficked as it was normal to raise money for the family. And if a child was conceived, the more the merrier to help with the farm.
We will still experience a worldwide Awakening. Christianity will come to Israel and the 3rd Temple will be built. (Yes, Herod and his wife's family rebuilt the 2nd Temple 50 times, but evidently this does not count.)
God still sees us as His Beloved and the earth as His Good Creation.
Worthy of His Promises.
Forever.
And that is a mighty long time.
Abba, Father!
WE PRAY
BLESSINGS
Jesus Christ would fill all the Books ever written.
All of literature and the spoken word.
The greatest thing You ever taught us is just to love,
and be loved in return.
The best thing, Father,
You do is find You love us for exactly what we are.
Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome,
You see, know and Love me.
We, Your Beloved,
continue to be the
Beloved You save
and the
Beloved You Promise. Forever.
You, Father, and I were different.
We came from different places,
and yet
You were the One who taught me the value of Love.
You showed me what it was like to care for another,
and
I am a better because of Your Holy Spirit.
I don’t want to ever forget You.
I love how You makes me feel,
like anything is possible
or
life forever encompasses
All.
