And God spoke all these words, saying,
2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
3 “You shall have no other gods before me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
13 “You shall not murder.
14 “You shall not commit adultery.
15 “You shall not steal.
16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's.”
18 Now when all the people saw the thunder and the flashes of lightning and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking, the people were afraid and trembled, and they stood far off 19 and said to Moses, “You speak to us, and we will listen; but do not let God speak to us, lest we die.” 20 Moses said to the people, “Do not fear, for God has come to test you, that the fear of him may be before you, that you may not sin.” 21 The people stood far off, while Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was.
Laws About Altars
22 And the Lord said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the people of Israel: ‘You have seen for yourselves that I have talked with you from heaven. 23 You shall not make gods of silver to be with me, nor shall you make for yourselves gods of gold. 24 An altar of earth you shall make for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your oxen. In every place where I cause my name to be remembered I will come to you and bless you. 25 If you make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of hewn stones, for if you wield your tool on it you profane it. 26 And you shall not go up by steps to my altar, that your nakedness be not exposed on it.’
The Lord God, The Almighty Maker of Heaven and earth, Creator of All Things, He calls the Heavenly Host by Name and knew you before your creation, enjoys telling us about Rocks.
Allow Jesus to be the Foundation of Your Life. Father God tells us.
Jesus is the Cornerstone of the entire Temple.
Your Life built upon God is a House with a Firm Foundation.
Your Body is a Temple of God. And Jesus the Cornerstone and your Foundation.
The Exodus had the 600,000 people carrying a Huge Boulder with them because the Rock produced Living Water. Jesus tells us before Abraham, "I am." And the New Testament assures us Jesus is Living Water and part of the Exodus.
Two times in Exodus 20 we are told not to have hewn, carved stones. One is not to think a work of mankind is as wonderful as God's Nature and Good Creation, not to idolize a mere carved stone. The other tells us not to have a hewn set of stones for an altar.
One is not to allow talent, art, touch stone to become something we need, like a pacifier. To understand its place in God's Good Creation. Ethiopia turned to Walking Crosses. A fine replacement. The mightiness of God triumphs over the Impossible, even Death. Our Heavenly Father who can bring nourishing Living Water from mere rock.
Why? Isn't a Hewn Stone Altar valuable to God?
An Altar is an Epiphany, a time of Realization and a Love and Warmth for God's Love for us. To pass by and find someone enjoyed re-engineering a Joy is a sadness. To find Inner Beauty depleted and forlorn. The hewn stones unknowingly invite dissembling. A Breach of Trust.
God tells us about Good and Goodness of His Eternally Alive Creation in the very start of His Word.
The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof.
God intends us to see His Works and have Awe and Wonder and to examine what we think His Promised Eternal Life will personally bring to you, His child.
God intends for us to value Goodness in His Creation. Goodness in mankind. Honor, Valor, Integrity, Sacrifice for the Sacred and to have Holiness within our dreams and hopes. God wants us to have Touchstone Moments to remember God's Amazing Love for you.
God Intends to tell us something is far Larger, more Compelling and amazingly more Honorable than we are daily.
God intends us to Marvel. And in this Goodness, of the Works of His Hand, find Him as our Foundation.
Without Surprise, we find Father God loves to place Shining Water, Reflecting Light as Living Water displayed with Magnificent Rock.
Mankind has the Light of God within them. The Light of Christ in all of mankind. Genesis and the Flood point out the Light of God's Creations, mere animals have God's Holiness and consideration for Eternity. And in this making Life part of Father God's Creation, we innately know of the purity in His Creation.
And if we feel we have failed to earn this Father's respect, we can run from Him with all of our hopes. We don't recognize God never asked for His Children to sacrifice an innocent to Him.
The Integrity and Warmth of placing Others as Dear to God. Without God's Love, we have a chillier life.
It's difficult to see the Ten Commandments. We are not in the Success Ratio at all times. The Law points out death, but the Spirit of God points to Life. God is making a Tent, a Place, where rules create enough Peace where Love can Dwell. Harmony. Peace.
The Gospels tell us a wilderness has straight paths put in place and becomes a Garden. The Gospels open telling us about the wilderness. And Family to live in Love, Peace, Prosperity and Hope. The Purpose of the Exodus was the Strengthening of the Family. Stability of home and farm business to prosper God's Plan of Hope and Future. For you. To build the family in hopes for enduring Family.
All of mankind has fallen. Father God invites us, before the Covenant Supper, before the Holiness of Jesus, immediately we are invited to make the wilderness a Garden of Harmony. In the Strength of the Holy Spirit is Joy.
The Spirit Gives Life.
Immediately, when Peter fell into the water, Jesus reached to pull him up and place Peter with Him.
