Psalm 143
A Psalm of David.
Who Always Prayed Very Well.
Hear my prayer, O Lord;
give ear to my pleas for mercy!
In Your Faithfulness answer me,
in Your Righteousness!
David certainly knew how to pray very well. He asks Jesus to pray with him,
in the Righteousness of Jesus.
2 Enter not into judgment with your servant,
for no one living is righteous before you.
3 For the enemy has pursued my soul;
he has crushed my life to the ground;
he has made me sit in darkness like those long dead.
4 Therefore my spirit faints within me;
my heart within me is appalled.
5 I remember the days of old;
I meditate on all that you have done
I ponder the work of your hands.
6 I stretch out my hands to you;
my soul thirsts for you like a parched land.

David isn't praying in a composed and thoughtful manner in Psalm 143
David is doing as the New Testament says not to be rocked by waves.
Scripture is very real.
The last verse gives a time to reflect and celebrate.
And the next verse really asks Abba to pick up the speed of answering and hurry.
Answer me quickly, O Lord!
My spirit fails!
Hide not your face from me,
lest I be like those who go down to the pit.
Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love,
for in you I trust.
Make me know the way I should go,
for to you I lift up my soul.
Deliver me from my enemies, O Lord!
I have fled to you for refuge.
Teach me to do your will,
for you are my God!
Let your good Spirit lead me
on level ground!
11 For your name's sake, O Lord, preserve my life!
In Your Righteousness bring my soul out of trouble!
And in Your Steadfast Love
You will cut off my enemies, and You will destroy all the adversaries of my soul,
for I am your servant.

And this is precisely why we will look at Pierre Roger. A Merry Soul with humor and style, panache.
Pierre Roger loved to promote his family. Nepotism was a favorite of his. Born in a Château. His brother married 3 times and had 13 children. His other brother married well and with his wife's dowry, this brother became Seigneur de Chambon to King Philip VI.
Pierre Roger loved: Learning, even in the 1300s Pierre Roger loved the higher studies and went to the College de Sorbonne. And he began to look for work to supply him in a manner, more grand, and we would call simply moving on up. King Charles IV recommended Pierre to have a Doctorate in Theology. Not bad work, if you can get it. Pierre had done well in theology and cannon law. Pierre was now 31 years merry.
After moving to the Vatican in Avignon, Roger kept back Temporal Encroachments on the Church's ecclesiastical jurisdiction. And aided in French dominance in the Church. Because Pierre Roger became Pope Clement VI. He had been elevated creating peace between the French and English King.
And Pope Clement VI wanted to his court to have splendor in his Papacy. Composers. Music Theorists. He loved art figures and his love for his family included 44 statues of relatives around his sarcophagus.
Evidently Clement VI was quite pleased with yellow velvet shoes. The Pope enjoyed dancing.
Reportedly, Pope Clement VI's first quote was: "'Our' predecessors did not know how to be Pope."

Pope Clement VI of the Black Plagues, 1347
Famous for living sequestered in a large fur coat between two giant fires while shunning everyone during the first Black Plague.
Pope Clement was the fourth Avignon Pope. He rejected a life of poverty.
Clement helped secure 1346's election of the German king Charles IV, who allied with the papacy. He abandoned his vow of monastic poverty and opposed the Spirituals, Franciscan extremists who observed absolute material poverty.
Enlarging the papal palace, Clement lived like a secular prince, patronized artists and scholars, and elevated his court to one of the most sophisticated of its time. Clement recruited composers and music theorists for his court, including figures associated with the then-innovative Art Nova style of France and the Low Countries.
The Truth: As the Black Plague approached, Pope Clement was busy with the Crusades.
Pope Clement received information from Guy de Chauliac to place himself surrounded by torches and remain there. Blacksmiths were surviving the Black Plague. One fourth of Clement’s staff died at Avignon. Pope Clement VI attributed the plague to divine wrath, like many theologians of the time, he undertook measures saving both himself and many people from certain death.
Clement soon became concerned about this torch fire recommendation.
And stayed in Avignon supervising sick care, burials, and the pastoral care of the dying.
He never contracted the disease, even though there was so much death around him.
The cities ran out of ground for cemeteries, and Clement consecrated the entire Rhone River allowing the consideration of holy ground and bodies could be thrown into it. Clement organized the bodies of the dead to be removed at a time bodies were just abandoned. Clement continued hearing the confessions of the sick and dying.

Popular opinion blamed the Jews for the plague, and pogroms erupted throughout Europe. Clement issued two papal bulls in 1348 (6 July and 26 September), the latter named Quamvis Perfidiam, which condemned violence saying those who blamed the plague on the Jews had been "seduced by that liar, the Devil."
Clements went on to emphasize: “It cannot be true that the Jews, by such a heinous crime, are the cause or occasion of the plague because through many parts of the world the same plague, by the hidden judgment of God, has afflicted and afflicts the Jews themselves and many other races who have never lived alongside them.” Pope Clement urged clergy to take action to protect Jews, as he had done.

Clement went on to deal with Pandemic Brain. Wars broke out for three years and the Plague was over in 2.5 years. After the wars of Pandemic Emotion calmed down, calm and peace returned.
Clement rose to the demands of Father God to love others.
He was saved in his Faith, in his Relationship with God and in his Legacy.
The needs of God's Call for the Sheep of His pasture.
In finding Peace, the Pope led the world to have Peace.

The Congress is Upset. We are Upset. Every one of us is Upset. Congressional members who are more theatric are crying about nearly dying. This is not the time to jump up and down in the pothole to find out the road isn't any smoother. We have to have some Faith in the Light shines in human nature again.
We all read the reports of mental suffering, months of confusion in recovery. Let's see the Pandemic Histories just include war, flopping around frantically and power stabs. There has been a lot of talk to gain Bait Click Popularity and Viewers of every extravagant and cruel word we can threaten. I watched a newsreel of Right explaining Left. It was a lot like World War II beginning. But if you really look at the Left saying how afraid and angry they are, you find the person sitting next to the verbal rant on the Left side of the Left news looking shocked and horrified at the rant.
Rants are everywhere. Fear and anger and threats. Don't jump into the pothole. Jump out.
Rants are part of Pandemic Brain.
Our part is - Praying. Living with Hope. Believing Historically this is a pattern. Knowing we don't have to just complain and be unhappy we can listen to Christian Radio, YouTube Sermons, read History of Pandemic Recovery. Pray. And do all we can to be what we surround ourselves in life with. Calm grocery shoppers, people who go to Church, friends who help friends, letting go of old stories because now is a serious time and a Great Opportunity to let the water pass under the bridge - long gone - of old wounds in the face of Dramatic Events requiring more deliberate need to bolster each other up.
Dump the Depression.
If it reeks of Theatrics, give it a Theatric label and draw peace and hope into your being instead. Roll past the pothole. Don't clickbait. Try not to rant. We all will a little. But give it another go not to rant. Eek.
Try with all your deliberation, not to feed the Pothole.
Change the Channel. Don't do Depression and Rants and Doom.
Believe God. Believe History. Life is going forth.
Another Truth.
As you go to do your grocery, your chores, your exercise - the Vast Majority of the whole world is being calm and waiting for the Pandemic Brain to mature and heal. The percentage of Americans who pray believing God really hears their prayer is 80%.

have upsets within themselves.
We pray for us all to be Brave and Believe
Better Days are ahead for us in Jesus Christ.
We ask Your Wisdom to Guide and Lead us
not to enflame, not to enrage
but to
Love One Another
Encourage and Build Up.
One of our Church Pastors, Dr. Stew Grant, had his father survive serious, grave Pneumonia. Doctors were amazed to discover his lungs in advanced old age were like those of a 30-year-old.
Because Dr. Stew Grant's Good Father loved to sing
in the Church Choir.
His father called this, "Practicing for Heaven!!!!"
