He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, 5 and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. 8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
But as for you, O man of God, flee these things.
Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.
Fight the good fight of the faith.
Take hold of the eternal life
to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession
The text of 1 Timothy 6 is about slavery. Why didn't the Church discourage the Chapter? Slavery is many things. Illness being tied to a frail body with illness. Addiction. Employment. Hopelessness. Video Games. Selfishness. The text is The Word of God and is alive and working.
How was your day?
I started out well. Having watched the television, this weekend, of a world of peaceful Protestors. Listening to the North Carolina funeral of George Floyd. And then I continued today as the news stepped back in place. I felt encouraged at the goodness of the hope we share.
However, listening to professional people and protestors and the Mayor of Minneapolis. I decided the Mayor reminded me of Patty Hearst. In my opinion, he began with a swagger and ended with a cry. I doubt very much he would enjoy reading my sympathy.
Praying while I watched the evening news, I wondered about 'Everything.' Remembering the mid-20 -something woman weeping and confessing to fear in public about Covid-19 (yes in Public). And maybe you'd agree with me, we all deal with vast changes with a differing degree of shock. Sometimes we are almost drunk with shock. In fact, this Post was decided upon when I turned off the TV and prayed about the announcement on May 25th about the vast consequences of stress on mental health and a sort of drunkenness of shock. I turned on the television after this prayer and the television was talking about heavy drinking. Changing the channel to avoid news, I came upon a movie about a child being adopted and this is a true story made for TV, and just as coincidentally - the young child was adopted in my town I live in presently. Not a Major City.
Not to mention receiving a prayer request for this being the worst time in life.
Sometimes we have to face our fears to see our fears and overcome.
This is not an unhealthy hope for controversy.
Let's Overcome, Now
1. Lockdown for some in Covid-19, tremendous fear for others. Willing to quarantine/hibernate for 3 months and now? What.
People gave up a great deal in sacrifice to see looting. And see another spike.
The Good - an amazing outpouring of Love for others. Demonstrations of incredulity in the compassion.
The not so good - people are angry to be in lockdown and see total disregard for the upcoming Health of the Protestors, the First Responders (now what) and the news.
2. The Loss of ability to Pay. What will become of my family, my elderly, my children, my friends, my job, my future, my home. One of the highest traumas in life, other than -listed above - number 1 - Loss of Life.
3. Isolation. Who wants to be friendly or real when terrified. Who wants useless sympathy? Who can we trust with all our troubles? We lose some Abundant Life to be weighted down. And what news do we have to share other than being worse than a wet blanket? Afraid to disappoint. Afraid to share. Afraid to be boring. Skip it. Lethargy.
4. Our fears for the world. We heard there was suicide and child and domestic trouble. The absolute anger at hearing on TV about irrational ticketing and harassment.
5. If someone told you in 7th grade you'd live :
In a world class Pandemic, Stock-market, Unemployment, Riots, Looting and Chaos described as okey dokey. Would you want to move to an island? How can we stand how rude we see each other behave.
PS We do live on an island, it's called The North American Continent.
6. Why did the Police ever get so cocky as to kill George Floyd with 4 uncaring Policemen and a cold Police Department to not be doing the one job they have fast enough. With 2 video tapes and 20 witnesses and no arrests? Horrible. Disgusting. Who tells the men wearing guns they can ticket beyond rudeness during a Pandemic. WHY didn't the NEWS report the tickets were repealed because of Public Outrage. ????? Why didn't Minneapolis Police Respond to sheer logic? Why isn't the Violence stopped? Why didn't anyone think this was coming to this for brutality????
7. Now we have the problem of Politics. Everyone is going to be outrageous. Is it the French Revolution? The politicians making the laws are pretending they aren't unmaking their own laws. The total political outrageous summersault. The News is worse and worse and focused again on the sensationalism - and not HUMANITY.
8. The MAJORITY ASKING: FOR GOODNESS AND LOVE.
Pilate is mentioned in the Scriptures. Pilate, is willing to squirm out of the riot. Pilate likes Jesus and he wants to help. Pilate is sent word from his wife to help Jesus. Pilate is struggling.
John 18
33 So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?”
34 Jesus answered, “Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?”
35 Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?”
36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.”
37 Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?”
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”

After he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews and told them, “I find no guilt in him."
We will take some time for Pilate. Jesus did. Oddly in this terrible time, we feel like Pilate. Events are happening around us like mountains falling. What is within our capacity?
Even Pastors examine their lives. Wanting to know if they should have reached more people. If all the days had pleased Jesus.Where is their (our) Acts of the Apostles? We are in the same boat. We want to know how we can make all of this better.
Stress 9. We genuinely want to help life to get better. Justice for ALL.

We are not God. God is the Almighty. He is going to continue to care for the world He has enduringly called His Good Creation. We will do what is within our capability. We are going to Pray. God says prayer is so good, we can hope for more Heaven upon earth.
Do your best. Stand firm. Realize how many shaken lava lamps people have in their lives right now. Be patient with yourself and pray with hope.
The prayers of the many. Do not fail to see the beauty. So many want to find better times for us ALL.
Our God is God Almighty. He hears the prayers of the many. God loves the world and brings eternal life today.

Hezekiah and Isaiah did so well in a time of utter historic terrors, seeing at least three entire tribes of Israel destroyed (in the other nation of Israel, not Judah) that today we find glad and good news archaeology of Hezekiah's Remarkable and Fantastic Time in History. We could be just exactly there.
We have seen so much unhappy news of our place in the world. This week we see the people around the world joining us in hoping for goodness and good news.
Abba, Holy Father God,
Tomorrow George Floyd will have his earthly body placed in Texas. We know George Floyd's life has given witness to You. So many have great things to tell of Your son's life. And his family tells us of love and courage. Their love for You. We pray this day will be a comfort to them. We pray George Floyd's life will bring Joy and Gladness to us all in the Hope and Expectation we have for Goodness and Justice. Hold this family and love them. Comfort them in Your Love, we pray. His family has done so well to tell of Your Holy Spirit.
Comfort and give them Your Love, holding to their hearts the Promise of Eternal Life. The Great Reunion of Ephesians 3, families live in Heaven. And let them feel Your Overwhelming, Steadfast Love telling them George adds to their lives every day.
