When you study Vintage Photos of Israel, you find the images Jesus would have seen. The population and architecture of the towns, largely, are similar. This generation is unique, we learn with so many images; three generations wouldn't have had these. The Old Testament reminds us not to value images. I'd have to say God has taken some of the visual concern in this away with the vast images we have seen. And some concern is renewed - in a violent culture. However, images are an amazing tool of learning.
In the Year 2020, in The Year of The Lord,
Our visual path is not pleasing for any calm or peace to our souls, mind and Spirit. The images have been almost circular.
We truly are a culture, a people, a Nation, Continents of Culture and peoples, in a shaken condition.
John 16:33
I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace.
You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.
Certainly the Emperor Saint Constantine the Great conquered the world.
And if every great man has a great woman standing near him, Flavia Julia Helena Augusta stood with Constantine. So much so, when Flavia Julia Helena Augusta passed on to be with the Lord, the Emperor of Rome gave her his amazing tomb - where she is very easy to locate to this day. A loving gift - we can see today. Helena was the mother of Emperor Constantine. Born in 248 AD, the year 312 changed Helena's life. Constantine was proclaimed Augustus of the Roman Empire, and following his elevation his mother was brought back to the public life in 312 AD, returning to the Imperial Court. She appears in the Eagle Cameo coin portraying Constantine's family.
History makes us understand how well things are known and understood.
Amazingly, a woman, Helena received the title of Augusta in 325 AD. According to Eusebius, her conversion to Christianity followed her son becoming Emperor. Constantine appointed his mother Helena as Augusta Imperatrix, with unlimited access to the imperial treasury. In 326–28 AD Helena, age 78 years old, undertook a trip to Israel. According to Bishop and Historian, Eusebius of Caesarea (265-340 AD), wrecords the details of her pilgrimage. Augusta Imperatrix Helena was responsible for the construction or beautification of two churches, the Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem, and the Church of Eleona on the Mount of Olives, sites of Christ's birth and ascension, respectively.
The Praetorium of Pontius Pilate was still mostly intact. Easily located. According to University of Israel Professors of Archaeology, the Sancta Scala is by far the most accurate. The Holy Stairs are the steps leading up to the Praetorium of Pontius Pilate in Jerusalem on which Jesus Christ stepped on his way to trial during his Passion. In the New Testament, Praetorium refers to the palace of Pontius Pilate, believed one of the residential palaces built by Herod the Great. At the time easily found.
For centuries, the Scala Sancta has attracted Christian pilgrims. And in 2019 were taken out of the wooden encasement. Psalm 130 is a Psalm of Ascents.
Usually encased in wood.
Psalm 130
A Song of Ascents.
Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord!
2 O Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my pleas for mercy!
3 If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?
4 But with you there is forgiveness,
that you may be feared.
5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
and in his word I hope;
6 my soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen for the morning,
more than watchmen for the morning.
O Israel, hope in the Lord!
For with the Lord there is steadfast love,
and with him is plentiful redemption.
And he will redeem Israel
from all his iniquities.
Bringing us to today.
Based upon the circular events and news we have witnessed, we all need a vacation. An elevation of
heart and soul, a stirring of the mind. A beautiful way to change the channel.
As a small child, we lived in Nice, France. On the weekends, we'd frequently travel to Florence and see a few things and go up on the hills to have lunch al fresco. Being so young, I spoke French and was tremendously pleased to translate for my parents. Shortly before we returned to the States, we were picnicking and my Daddy challenged me to learn Italian.
Let's consider how well Italy is recovering.
It's our sadness to see Covid-19 oppress the people who so generously sang in the evenings, yet to find Life Prevail and Celebrate Life during this incredible sadness.
After watching Church, twice this morning, we were having a very languid Sunday and found this to have Peace. A vacation. A renewal.
Like me, you've probably had some French and some Spanish lessons. This was something like my childhood, learning words to discover the Flow of Life. We can strive to find meaning in the Italian. If you don't speak the language - exactly - you still speak the Language of the Body of Jesus Christ.
The Service begins at about minute 26. You'll find the unrushed Joy in being in God's Presence. The expressions on the Body of Christ - wonder, prayer, awe, concern, reverence - are Universal. You are with the people of Jesus. The peace in the social distancing precautions are like Jesus taking the deaf man from the crowd to show him slowly Jesus heals. You have the time and His attention.
The joy seeing a Cardinal in total joy to have Sunday. A mother tenderly expecting a second child and finding enjoyment of her young child in such an amazing setting. I'd say what I enjoyed most, seeing Pope Francis touching the portrait of the beautiful Mary holding her Son. As a child, Mary so many times was painted doing her duty. This is as warm as can be. Pope Francis has added the Cross of Jesus to the Vatican, saying an altar must have a Cross of Jesus. We will pray for Pappa Francis not to have pain as he limps.
The one Word we found in Italian was the Italian for, "I Love You." Avanti, for Forward. The only requirement you have as the words rush around you would be - find a Scripture. A Gospel you will hold on to as part of the world - God's Good Creation - Uniting in His Love. And in Living Word - The Love of Jesus Unites Us.
Your Name, Your Face, Your Soul gives you - your seat at His Table.
Heaven, it's not difficult to see God's House would be similar, placed near the 12 Open Always Gates of Heaven. The Kingdom of God is written to be Incredibly Vast. Surely this would be part of the Beginning of Heaven. We are united as Citizens of His Unshaken Eternal Glory and Kingdom. In His Love! The Body of Jesus Christ in Victory.
This adventure is for you, to apply Scripture to find Your Road to Emmaus warm heart with Jesus.
If part of the Gospels doesn't seem to appear to you, feel free to draw from God's Word listed below and apply this to the beautiful Language of God.
Father God, He has an idea how He will greet you.
