Mark 1:40-43
And a leper came to him, imploring him, and kneeling said to him, “If you will, you can make me clean.”
Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, “I will; be clean.” And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean.
And Jesus sternly charged him and sent him away at once, and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, for a proof to them.”
Jesus was not always asking for silence. Only sometimes. When Jesus healed the widow's son, Jesus did this in front of a large crowd. For the town and His followers to understand Jesus was God of the Living. Death was overcome. Very literally.
Mark's Gospel says this is what was Important, Mark's Witness:
1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
2 As it is written in Isaiah the prophet,
“Behold, I send my messenger before your face,
who will prepare your way,
3 the voice of one crying in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight’”
Mark wrote the Gospel, this was what the people of the first century Rome were asking about. Peter was guiding Mark.
The events, evidently, were thought about in great measures. The answer is here, witnessed by people who have seen miracles. Great miracles give rise to questioning. Like survival. Why was I honored? What will I do with this? People with miracles are spoken of testing the new goodness like a new colt. Jesus speaks within us. This man is healed and he will speak in his soul to the Deed and Word of Jesus. Jesus has placed before this man, new life. This man understands the wilderness, of no path, has a new path for him. He is a New Creation. Jesus has given him a beginning. And has given him the freedom, not to have the controversy of the man who was blind and healed from birth. When you are free in Jesus, you are free indeed.
Mark 1:45
But he went out and began to talk freely about it, and to spread the news, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town, but was out in desolate places, and people were coming to him from every quarter.
The choice belongs to the child of God. The man has decided to trust the telling to everyone. He believes he has done well. And God, Himself, has blessed his choice. Jesus is Proclaimed!
God trusts us. He has faith we will chose the good.
This is the Belief of Jesus Christ in us.
God in His Love is interested in what we do with Life.
Isaiah 7
In the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, son of Uzziah, king of Judah, Rezin the king of Syria and Pekah the son of Remaliah the king of Israel came up to Jerusalem
Ahaz understands the world has immense trouble. He has shepherded his nation, to worship in the hills. He believes his son, future King Hezekiah, will be the puppet king of Assyria. The Temple is avoided so his son can chip out the gold and appease Assyria. Ahaz is mistaken, but he truly is searching for the good of his nation. Very evidently, sincerity is not something God mistakes for sin. Both in Isaiah 7 and Mark 1. The wilderness of life is not something God is concerned is overwhelming. God knows 'exactly' where we are.
Isaiah 7
3 And the Lord said to Isaiah, “Go out to meet Ahaz, you and Shear-jashub your son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool on the highway to the Washer's Field.
4 And say to him, ‘Be careful, be quiet, do not fear, and do not let your heart be faint because of these two smoldering stumps of firebrands
7 Thus says the Lord God:
“‘It shall not stand,
and it shall not come to pass.
8 For the head of Syria is Damascus,
and the head of Damascus is Rezin.
And within sixty-five years
Ephraim will be shattered from being a people.
9 And the head of Ephraim is Samaria,
and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah.
If you are not firm in faith, you will not be firm at all.’”
God is telling the worried Ahaz, an unlikely peace is upon them. Today and Tomorrow.
10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz: 11 “Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.”
12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.”
13 And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. 15 He shall eat curds and honey when he knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good. 16 For before the boy knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land whose two kings you dread will be deserted.
17 The Lord will bring upon you and upon your people and upon your father's house such days as have not come since the day that Ephraim departed from Judah—the king of Assyria!”
18 In that day the Lord will whistle for the fly that is at the end of the streams of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria. 19 And they will all come and settle in the steep ravines, and in the clefts of the rocks, and on all the thornbushes, and on all the pastures.
20 In that day the Lord will shave with a razor that is hired beyond the River—with the king of Assyria—the head and the hair of the feet, and it will sweep away the beard also.
21 In that day a man will keep alive a young cow and two sheep, 22 and because of the abundance of milk that they give, he will eat curds, for everyone who is left in the land will eat curds and honey.
23 In that day every place where there used to be a thousand vines, worth a thousand shekels of silver, will become briers and thorns. 24 With bow and arrows a man will come there, for all the land will be briers and thorns. 25 And as for all the hills that used to be hoed with a hoe, you will not come there for fear of briers and thorns, but they will become a place where cattle are let loose and where sheep tread.
Mark 5
40 And they laughed at him. But he put them all outside and took the child's father and mother and those who were with him and went in where the child was. 41 Taking her by the hand he said to her, “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” 42 And immediately the girl got up and began walking (for she was twelve years of age), and they were immediately overcome with amazement.
43 And he strictly charged them that no one should know this, and told them to give her something to eat.
We are again Part of the Struggle to Make what is Right. In this story - two lowly women are healed by Jesus.
Jesus was willing to heal the Official, Jairus' daughter. Jesus was unwilling to be seen as the tool of the powerful. Jesus is simply walking in the Garden, righting what is wrong. Genesis 3. The same as Ahaz.
Mark 8
27 And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi.
And on the way,
He asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?”
28 And they told him, “John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.”
29 And He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.”
30 And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him.
Jesus in this portion of the Gospel of Mark - is clearly giving Messiah Answers.
God is not rejecting His Temple, He is moving forward.
And Jesus is telling of the Vatican, built upon the Rock of Peter Simon.
2 Peter 1:19
We have the more sure word of prophecy; and you do well that you heed it,
as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns,
and the morning star arises in your hearts.
Peter was not prolific in His Publishing. Peter asked Mark to answer questions. And we have Mark's Gospel.
The Royal Stoa was part of the Temple and then part of God's Church.
Jesus knew of what He was Speaking.
The Original Basilica of St. Peter - the original stairs under the Altar lead to St. Peter's Tomb.
What was covered over, has been found again. In the present day to see the Peter's tomb, the Vatican offers these stairs.
and the stairs of Jesus on Good Friday:
Mark 9
7 And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.”8 And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus only.
9 And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 10 So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what this rising from the dead might mean.
Isn't God amazing, we go down a path of His Word and He opens doors.
We are just walking along.
Abba, Holy Spirit, our Father God,
Preach the Gospel at all times. When necessary, use words.
Ahaz had no idea, God would bring him something new. The leprous man had no idea. The Transfiguration was a surprise blessing to John, James and Peter.
Ephesians 3:20-21
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
The Bible in our Hand today, is Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow the Wisdom of God to you - His Church. Jesus has told us to know the Scriptures is to Know the Power of God.
John 7:38
Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.
Romans 10:17
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Mark 5:36
Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don't be afraid; just believe.”
1 Corinthians 13:13
So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
