Colossians 3
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
If then you were raised with Christ,
seek what is above,
where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
From being in Bible Studies for many decades, I've heard most Christians express a wonder to a skepticism of the Ascension. And for years, I was sitting in this same seat as well. And, yet, the faithful know God can do anything.
But I don't think this distance is anything but Scriptural. John 21, the victorious Jesus, on the shores of the Sea of Galilee preparing to cook fish, as the disciples are working with another miracle of abundant fishing. Two sets of miracles, 3 sets of miracles, and, then, 4 miracles. Peter has the wisdom to swim and not try to walk on water. We probably are not meant to walk on water. Instead, to reach up, in expectation of the Hand of God reaching immediately for us. The 5th miracle, as Jesus openly forgives Peter. 6, they are all forgiven.
Immediately, their needs present, saying why should John be favored? When is Jesus going to toss out the Romans from Holy Israel? The Disciples believe they are forgiven. Miracles abound. Yet, they want the earthly Heaven as well as Jesus alive and well, working many, many layers of miracles.
Colossians 3:1-11
3 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 On account of these the wrath of God is coming.
7 In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. 8 But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.
11 Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised,
barbarian, Scythian, slave,
free;
but
Christ is all,
and in all.
The discomfort sometimes present in the focus on The Ascension of Pentecost isn't meant to cut us off, in discomfort, from Jesus Christ and our prayers listened to with mercy and the Steadfast Love of God.
We have these 2 verses to consider in our emotions over the Ascension.
Philippians 4:7
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts
and your minds
in Christ Jesus.
The Disciples, in all 4 Books of the Gospel and all 109 chapters, do not provide a leadership role in displaying the perfect peace of God.
But in prayer, the Disciples present themselves as Faithful Leaders.
And as their faith continues, they present Peace.
If we decide this earth is for disposal only. To be forgotten, then we have pushed aside Jesus Christ explaining to us The Lord's Prayer. We pray for more Heaven on earth for more of God's Good Will. We will have forgotten God sent His Only Son
to die for the salvation of the world in Jesus Christ.
The Lord is not done with this culture, these generations living upon earth. His mercies renew daily.
We present our discomfort to the Lord and He will come as our Help, Helper, Comfort and Comforter to assist us to let the circle be unbroken. Discomfort?
1 Timothy 1:14-16
The grace of our Lord overflowed for me
with the faith and love that
are in Christ Jesus.
15 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance,
that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners,
of whom I am the foremost.
16 But I received mercy for this reason,
that in me, as the foremost,
Jesus Christ might display His perfect patience
as an example to those
who were to believe in Him for eternal life.
1 Corinthians 13:12
For now we see in a mirror, darkly;
but then face to face:
now I know in part;
but then shall I know fully
even as also I was fully known.
2 Timothy 2:1-3
You therefore, my child, be strong in the grace that
is in Christ Jesus.
And the things that you have heard me say among many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men
John 6:29
Jesus answered them,
“This is the work of God given to mankind,
that you believe
in Him
Whom He has sent.”
1 Corinthians 1:18
For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved
it is the power of God.
The Cross is the intersection
The intersection of the ways of mankind being brought and invited into our Father's Kingdom through the grace upon grace of Jesus Christ. He knows us as we are. His Salvation is a gift. And we are unable to earn His Salvation. Gifted by God Himself. We present ourselves as we are to the Lord and find Joy in His Love. In this relationship, we find God's Joy enables us.
1 Peter 2:9
You are a chosen race,
a royal priesthood,
a Holy Nation,
a people
for
His Own Possession,
that
you may proclaim
The Excellencies of Him
Who called
you
out of darkness
into
His Marvelous light.
Abba, Father,
Very much a work of the Lord.
