Matthew 7:24-29
24 “Everyone then who hears these Words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
28 And when Jesus finished these sayings,
the crowds were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He was teaching them as One who had authority, and not as their scribes.
One of the unique things about the Gospels, there are 89 chapters, and Jesus is recorded speaking: I am the Word of God Fulfilled . When Jesus is saying to us about leading worthy lives, having a worthy heart, mind, body and soul for His Salvation, Jesus isn't placing this upon solely upon The Temple.
One of the aspects of these verses is facing a crisis, a loss or a tragedy. Life-changing events.
One of the first and most important cornerstones of Grief Recovery is:
allowing the people around us to heal at different rates. Allowing relief during the grief. Speaking about how we feel, but taking time to have a deliberate time when vacations from dire discussions and considerable decisions will be … not done today, my dear.
Men typically heal faster. Typically the first year, people are working at sorting. The 2nd year, we want to know why we aren't all better, and the internal judgment for recovery is painful. The divorce rates of families facing crisis death is large.
But God has built us to recover and find the greater meaning in life.
Duck and Run
I have a family member I love who wants to be the one to cause problems.
His way of coping is to browbeat someone at gatherings until they cry. And once they cry, he can apologize and be contrite and reform the relationship. The victim is typically a different person, being the one verbally challenged. And he deals with things by chunking the problem.
Chunking the Problem seems like an ideal solution!
Moses would have loved and been thrilled to chunk the Children of Israel, oh, a lot of the time. What did Moses have to do to bring the ungrateful water every day? Wow, this:
Yes, the Children of Israel had a water rock that never failed. And they carried this giant rock where they went. Life can be complicated. No doubt. Really, God was giving us another parable. Jesus is the Living Water. I'm not being facetious. This is about coping.
Grief is like that rock.
We sort out all of our emotions as they go back and forth, which we do to respect and honor the one we love and lost. We didn't Love if we don't suffer, a universal emotional decision. What is justice? What is fair? How much are we blown by the winds of life. Are we dying soon? Should we be alive?
And no one carries the rock of recovery for us.
So, some people are going to duck and run. But knowing someone very well who ducks and runs, the recovery goes sideways, and eventually the one who ducks and runs calls you during the pandemic and you are going to hear with great sympathy, “50 Decisions I Made Willfully That Ruined My Life Forever.”
Ducking and running is a perfect way to have your own private alligator eating you daily. And those decisions dig a hole. It's a sad situation to hear, when you love the person who has faced the facts, he has been living with slopping the pigs and it is terrible.
I know 2 people willing to admit chunking the person, ducking and running, after having been married again, isn't happy. One is a college professor, he says he was happier when he was married to his first wife. More children, more hurt feelings, more guilt complicates everything and doesn't create happiness. Worse holidays. Worse vacations. Someone is angry. The other man has been married 4 times and has children with almost all of them. He says the first wife was the quality person, and he will never see her worth again. He removed himself from the happier league of person.
I know 3 women who were comfortably married with children and decided to shop/date/fling to see if the husband could be chunked, duck and run to a better situation. 1 person of the 3 had a male spouse waiting to see if she would be the one to create the easier divorce. And the 3 women are left without the comfort and security of marriage because the boyfriend, while they were married at the time, will not marry her and says she has all the materials of a bad spouse. Not that the prior spouse didn't gloat over.
Doing the right thing is like carrying that gigantic rock.
Living Water is where the work is accomplished of self esteem, Relationship with God, Loving Jesus for His Blessings. Here we will find Comfort. Strength. Holiness. Endurance and God's Help. His Love.
Grief Recovery Groups hosted by Churches
helps that rock get smaller all the time.
If we wanted to pair this to one of the Chapters, which one?
Luke 19
19 He entered Jericho and was passing through.
2 And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus.
He was a chief tax collector and was rich. 3 And he was seeking to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was small in stature.
So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for he was about to pass that way. 5 And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him,
“Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.”
6 So he hurried and came down and received Him joyfully.
7 And when they saw it, they all grumbled, “He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.” 8 And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold.”
9 And Jesus said to him,
“Today
Salvation has come to this house,
since he also is a son of Abraham.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
The Word of God stands forever.
Like Jesus and Zacchaeus, Jesus is easy to know and recognize.
All depends.... upon Jesus recognizing us ... in our words, deeds, heart, effort and lives.
15 So I am eager to preach the Gospel to you also who are in Rome.
16 For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the Power of God
for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written,
“The righteous shall live by faith.”
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven
against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.
19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.
20 For His invisible attributes, namely, His Eternal Power and Divine Nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give Thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
Is the Kingdom of Heaven worth seeking? YES.
Revelation 22:16-17
“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things
for the churches.
I am the root and the descendant of David,
the bright morning star.”
17 The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.”
And let the one who hears say, “Come.”
And let the one who is thirsty come;
let the one who desires take the water of Life
without price.
And in this JOY
God would say!
Revelation 7:9-10
After the vision of these things I looked,
and there was a great number of people,
so many that no one could count them.
They were from every nation,
tribe,
people,
and language
of the earth.
The Word of God stands forever.
“Everyone then who hears these Words of Mine
and does them
will be like a wise man
who built
his house
on the rock.
Jesus sincerely tells us He is The Way, The Truth and The Life.
God the Father, provides for Abraham, his children and gives them an inheritance of Israel. He asks, as He did for Adam, to tend the land. God calls the earth His Good Creation and sees Good. God provides. God did not just give to King Moses or The Temple and ask His Children to work without ceasing. God, importantly, rests on the 7th day. God wants Love as shelter and the ability to make choices. Free Will. This is His Governance.
Revelation 22
And let the one who is thirsty come;
let the one who desires take the water of Life
without price.
John 8:31
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed Him,
“If you abide
in My Word,
you are truly My Disciples,
and you will know the truth,
and the truth will set you free.”
Who will be saved?
Abba, Father,
Help us each day to fulfill Your plans for us
in Church
and our daily thoughts, ways and life,
and the work You would have us do.
and the work You would have us do.
You could have given everything
to King Moses
or The Temple
and, instead,
You Bless and Bless
Your Children.
Be in the world,
not of the world.
Be our Light and our direction.
You are with us
to
to
the end
of the age.
In the Highest Name of Jesus Christ.
Amen.
